On the night of April 6, 2019, the life of 25-year-old Nathaniel Henderson, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. The evening was meant to be one of entertainment, with a concert underway at the Second Chance nightclub in West Memphis, Arkansas. However, the atmosphere of revelry turned violent when an altercation broke out, escalating to the sound of gunfire. In the ensuing chaos, Henderson was struck by a single bullet to the head.
When authorities arrived, they found him inside the club and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified two suspects, 23-year-old Reginald Smith and 23-year-old Raheem Stackhouse. A manhunt for the two men was launched. The search for Smith came to an end when he voluntarily surrendered to the authorities. Stackhouse was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after. The incident resulted in the death of not only Henderson, but also another individual, JuWuan McClendon. Both Smith and Stackhouse faced serious charges for their roles in the violent events of that night.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of justice for the victims. Raheem Stackhouse was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Nathaniel Henderson and was subsequently sentenced to a 25-year prison term. Reginald Smith entered a guilty plea for the second-degree murder of JuWuan McClendon and received a 30-year prison sentence.
