On a tragic Sunday in West Memphis, Arkansas, the lives of two young parents were cut short, leaving a community in mourning and a one-year-old child without a mother or father. The events of August 30, 2026, unfolded at a residence on Denton Street where 19-year-old Malik Jones and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Shaniya Smith, were fatally shot.
