On a Wednesday night in May 2020, Jimmy Lee Tanner, a 56-year-old Black man, drove through the Harvard Yard neighborhood of Marion, Arkansas, behind the wheel of his red 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He ended up on Bristol Road, a residential street in Crittenden County, where a seemingly routine stop led him to step out of his vehicle and approach two men on foot. According to investigators, Tanner began talking with the pair, and the conversation quickly turned into a heated verbal confrontation.
