On an autumn evening in Marion, Arkansas, the life of 26-year-old Cortez Brown was tragically cut short. On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Crittenden County Sheriff's Office received a distressing call reporting gunfire in the 300 block of Stonebrook Loop. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the body of a young man, later identified as Cortez Brown, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect.
Devin Jevon Simpson, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the death of Brown. The Crittenden County Sheriff's Office announced that Simpson faces serious charges, including first-degree murder. In addition to the murder charge, Simpson was also charged with tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by certain persons, and multiple counts of committing a terroristic act.
Following his arrest, Devin Jevon Simpson was held on a $250,000 bond as the investigation into the death of Cortez Brown continued. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life, while the legal process against the man accused of ending it began to unfold.
