On the night of September 24, 2020, Little Rock police responded to a reported shooting at a residence on the 2000 block of South Louisiana Street. Upon arrival around 10:45 p.m., officers discovered 40-year-old Cortney Mays inside the home with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual present had sustained severe head lacerations and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
