In the winter of 2022, the life of 21-year-old Jadon Shackelford was tragically cut short in Little Rock, Arkansas. On the evening of Saturday, January 8th, a friend picked Jadon up from his family's home and they went to Merriweather Park, a place meant for family-friendly activities. Shortly after their arrival, neighbors reported hearing the sound of gunshots echoing through the park.
It was in this sudden burst of violence that Jadon was shot.
Following the shooting, the same friend who had picked him up drove him to a nearby hospital. Despite the immediate medical attention, Jadon succumbed to his injuries. His death, which was officially recorded on January 9, 2022, was ruled a homicide. Jadon was a beloved son, brother, and a devoted new father to his 22-month-old son. His family remembers him for his infectious smile, beautiful curly hair, and his caring nature.
The investigation into Jadon's death unfolded over several months. Initially, there were pleas from his family and the community for anyone with information to come forward. Their calls for justice were eventually answered as arrests were made in connection with the case. In March of 2022, Jordan Parkinson was arrested and charged with capital murder. Later that year, in December, two more individuals were taken into custody. Eighteen-year-old Evan Franklin and 17-year-old Grant Nichol were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder and committing a terroristic act.
The arrests brought a sense of relief to Jadon's grieving family, though their fight for justice continued. They expressed that while the arrests were a significant step, the pain of their loss remained. The family remembered Jadon as a kind and sweet person who loved his family deeply and was a doting father to his young son, Malachi.
