David Allan Smith, a 68-year-old resident of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, tragically passed away on September 12, 2021, following an accidental shooting at his home. He was transported to the emergency room at Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have classified the incident as an accident, and no arrests have been made in connection with his death.
Born on April 15, 1953, in DeQueen, Arkansas, David was the son of the late Harold and Zella Mae Allen Smith. He graduated as salutatorian from Gillham High School in 1972 and earned a degree from Henderson State University in 1976. David served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Armored Cavalry of the United States Army. He was a dedicated member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God Church in Arkadelphia and had a 35-year career as a Licensed Practical Nurse specializing in ICU and critical care. For the last 16 years, he served as chaplain at Baptist Health Hospital. David was also an avid runner, bicyclist, and martial arts enthusiast.
David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Green Smith; three sons, Brandon Smith of Bismarck, B. Allen Smith of Hot Springs, and Colin Smith of Bismarck; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service was held on September 18, 2021, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials were requested to be made to the David or Nancy Smith memorial fund at Patterson Federal Credit Union.
