In the early morning hours of October 27, 2021, the quiet of Kensett, Arkansas was broken by a 911 call that would unravel a story of violence and loss. Responding to the call at approximately 2:15 AM, deputies from the White County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence on Usery Road. Inside, they discovered 19-year-old Tommie Jacoby Welton suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and Welton was quickly transported by NorthStar EMS to the Unity Health Hospital Emergency Room in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, Tommie Welton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The initial response quickly transitioned into a homicide investigation, with detectives from the White County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division securing the home as a crime scene to begin the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the young man's death. Investigators collected evidence and took statements from witnesses, hoping to find answers.
The investigation led to the swift identification and arrest of three suspects in connection with Welton's murder. The White County Sheriff's Office announced that Jonathan Henderson, Quinton Brown, and Ashton Williams had been taken into custody. All three men were charged with capital murder for their alleged involvement in Welton's death. In addition to the murder charge, Ashton Williams faced further accusations, including aggravated assault and the unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. The case then moved to the judicial system to determine the fate of the men accused of ending the life of Tommie Jacoby Welton.
