On the night of January 21, 2022, a burst of gunfire outside a Little Rock, Arkansas, nightclub ended the life of Jimmie Johnson, a 44-year-old Black man. The shooting took place in a parking lot in the 3300 block of Roosevelt Road, where Mr. Johnson and another man, 38-year-old Andre Luckey, were both struck. When police arrived, they found the two men with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The bodies of both victims were then taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death.
Mr. Johnson was survived by his wife, Patricia Johnson, his daughter, Elizabeth Johnson-Bowman, and his stepchildren, Alysia, Dorothy, and Deshawn. He was also mourned by his parents, Buford Wade and Callis Rhodes, and his siblings, Lester Rhodes III, Charlette Rhodes, and Miracle Scribner. A funeral service to celebrate his life was held on February 7, 2022, at Premier Funeral Home.
The investigation into the double homicide led Little Rock police to identify two suspects. Authorities first arrested 22-year-old Paul Williams in connection with the shooting. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for his alleged involvement in the deaths of Mr. Johnson and Mr. Luckey.
On February 1, 2022, police arrested a second suspect, 46-year-old Paul Brown. He was charged with two counts of capital murder. Following their arrests, both Paul Williams and Paul Brown were held in the Pulaski County jail. As of February 2022, the case was proceeding through the legal system.
