On the night of June 6, 2022, a sense of unease descended upon a home on Arkansas Highway 235, southwest of Yellville. Inside, 80-year-old Daniel W. Stine, a White male, was fatally shot. The Marion County Sheriff's Department received a call around 11:15 p.m. reporting an intruder at the residence. When deputies arrived, they discovered Mr. Stine's body, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.
A family member who was also in the house at the time of the shooting was questioned by authorities.
The investigation into the homicide was quickly turned over to the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division. Special agents began processing the crime scene the following day. Mr. Stine's body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the precise cause and manner of his death. The investigation progressed swiftly, and just two days later, on June 8, 2022, a break in the case was announced. A 15-year-old male was taken into custody in Conway, Arkansas, in connection with the killing. Authorities then faced the decision of whether to charge the juvenile as an adult or to proceed through the juvenile adjudication process.
Daniel Stine was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on November 30, 1941. He was an active member of the Yellville United Pentecostal Church and had a passion for the outdoors, often enjoying biking, camping, and photography. He was a widower, having been preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Kay, and a daughter, Deanna Kay. He is survived by his remaining children and numerous grandchildren. In the wake of his death, the community offered its support to the grieving family through a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.
