On a Monday evening in the fall of 2024, the life of Javier Alvares-Garcia, a 50-year-old Hispanic man, came to a violent end in Little Rock, Arkansas. Around 5:17 p.m. on November 18, officers with the Little Rock Police Department’s 12th Street Division responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in the 2400 block of South Pulaski Street.
When police arrived, they discovered Javier Alvares-Garcia inside the car.
He was unresponsive and showed no signs of life, having suffered what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound. The Pulaski County Coroner later responded to a local hospital and transported Mr. Alvares-Garcia’s body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Authorities notified his next of kin of the tragedy.
Homicide detectives and the department's Crime Scene Search Unit were called to the location to launch a full investigation. They secured the area and began the work of gathering evidence, which included canvassing the neighborhood to speak with potential witnesses and searching for any available surveillance footage that might have captured the events leading to the shooting.
The investigation quickly pointed to a person of interest. Nine days later, on November 27, 2024, authorities arrested 46-year-old Henry Williams of Little Rock. He was charged with capital murder in connection with Javier Alvares-Garcia’s death. The case against Williams proceeded through the justice system, resulting in a conviction for the fatal shooting. He was ultimately sentenced to serve 40 years in prison for the crime.
