In the quiet, rural landscape of western Nebraska, a grim discovery was made on a county road about five miles south and half a mile west of Stegall in the early morning hours of August 21, 1971. The body of 41-year-old Patrick Vostades, a Hispanic male, was found, having been fatally shot by an unknown assailant or assailants. It appeared that he had been killed elsewhere and his body transported to this remote location.
