In the vast and rugged landscape of the Arizona Territory, a young lawman by the name of Gerald 'Paddy' Creaghe met a violent and untimely end in the spring of 1880. At the age of 24, Creaghe served as a Deputy Sheriff for Apache County. In early May of that year, he and fellow Deputy Sheriff James Almeron Richmond were dispatched to the southern reaches of the county to conduct land assessments or collect taxes.
