In the late summer of 1973, on the vast expanse of the Navajo Reservation in Lupton, Arizona, a dedicated lawman's life was tragically cut short. Deputy Sheriff Delbert L. Berry, a 32-year-old male who had been with the Apache County Sheriff's Office for a mere two weeks, was fatally shot on Sunday, September 2, 1973. He had previously served for five years with the McKinley County Sheriff's Office in New Mexico.
