On March 29, 2009, this promising life came to a violent end. Ashley was found with a single gunshot wound to the head. The investigation into her death quickly revealed a grim sequence of events. Authorities identified Robert Gardea Ruiz as the man responsible for her death. In an act of murder-suicide, Ruiz shot Ashley before turning the gun on himself. While he initially survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound, he remained in serious condition and ultimately succumbed to his injuries on April 3, 2009.
