On December 8, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., 28-year-old Terrell Police Officer Jacob Candanoza initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of I-20 and Highway 34 in Terrell, Texas. During the stop, he requested backup, and shortly thereafter, 911 calls reported an officer being shot. Officer Candanoza was found with gunshot wounds and was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Forney, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
