In the early morning hours of December 1, 2024, the life of 23-year-old Jesus Cartier Hamilton of Hampton, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Newport News Police Department officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 700 block of Gloucester Drive around 2:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene: three male victims inside the residence, all suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jesus Cartier Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other men were found with serious injuries and were quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. One of these men, 26-year-old Jude Dorfeuil of Yorktown, Virginia, later succumbed to his injuries. The third victim was reported to be in stable condition. The preliminary investigation by the Newport News Police Department has led them to believe that this was not a random act of violence.
Police Chief Steve Drew stated that the individuals involved were acquainted with each other and that the incident was an isolated event. He also indicated that illegal substances and firearms were a factor in the tragic outcome. While there was no immediate threat to the wider community, the investigation into the deaths of Hamilton and Dorfeuil is ongoing. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide. Authorities have not released any information about potential suspects but have expressed a desire to interview multiple individuals who may have information about the case. The community has been urged to come forward with any information that could assist in bringing closure to the families of the victims. Funeral services for Jesus Cartier Hamilton were held on December 14, 2024, at Union Baptist Church in Newport News.
