On December 15, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Arlington Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting in a parking lot located in the 4900 block of Little Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Juan Sosa slumped over inside a parked vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 18, 2024.
A 45-year-old woman who was with Mr.
Sosa at the time of the incident recounted that as they were seated in their vehicle, another car, identified as a Honda Civic, pulled up behind them. Multiple males exited the Civic, approached them, and demanded that they exit their vehicle, with at least one suspect brandishing a firearm. Subsequently, multiple shots were fired into the car, striking Mr. Sosa. The assailants then fled the scene in the Civic.
Through witness statements and surveillance footage, officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle. Shortly after 5:00 a.m., patrol officers spotted the Honda Civic, accompanied by a Lincoln Town Car, in the 1600 block of Parkway Lane. Upon attempting a traffic stop, the Civic sped away, while the Town Car stopped. Two individuals inside the Town Car, 20-year-old Humberto Barajas and a teenage male, were detained and subsequently linked to the shooting. The Civic was later found wrecked in the 2100 block of Browning Drive, leading to the arrest of 17-year-old Angel Barajas at a nearby apartment complex. The fourth suspect, identified as 17-year-old Ja’Tavies Jones, was apprehended on December 19, 2024, by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force.
Investigations revealed that the Honda Civic had been reported stolen from Dallas on December 14, 2024. The suspects were also linked to an earlier shooting on December 15, around 1:30 a.m., at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Deer Creek Drive, where a 32-year-old woman and a dog were injured. Additionally, the Lincoln Town Car was reported stolen during an armed carjacking in Grand Prairie at approximately 4:20 a.m. on the same day.
Following Mr. Sosa’s death, detectives obtained arrest warrants for all four suspects, charging them with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The adult suspects, including Angel Barajas and Humberto Barajas, were booked into the Arlington City Jail and later transferred to the Tarrant County Jail. The juvenile suspect was taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center. All four individuals are suspected in multiple crimes that occurred before and after the deadly shooting.
