According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Fields had been in a relationship with Washington's estranged wife, who described Washington as controlling and abusive. She revealed that Washington had threatened to harm both her and Fields, blaming Fields for ruining his marriage. Facebook messages from Washington to Fields' niece further supported this motive, as Washington expressed his anger and resentment towards Fields.
Washington was charged with the murder of Juriah Fields and remained in custody at the Tulsa County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.
