Oliver Moffett, a 36-year-old man, was killed late on December 23, 2024, in the Red Bird area of Dallas, Texas. At about 11:30 p.m., Dallas police officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Chaucer Place after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Moffett suffering from gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation determined that he had been shot and died from his injuries.

Contemporary reporting identified Shaw as 17 years old and showed that he was being held in jail on the murder accusation by December 26.
