Frank Lance Parker, a 49-year-old male from Arlington, Texas, was one of the victims in a tragic shooting spree that occurred on June 29, 1984, at Ianni's restaurant and club in Dallas, Texas. The incident, which is considered one of the city's worst mass murders, resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including Parker. The shooter, Abdelkrim Belachheb, a 39-year-old Moroccan, was reportedly angered by a woman who spurned his advances.
He first gunned down the woman with his Smith & Wesson Model 59 automatic pistol and then began shooting other club patrons at point-blank range, stopping once to reload his weapon.
Belachheb was arrested without incident at a friend's house three hours after the shootings. He was initially charged with one count of murder and jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond. Subsequently, he was charged with five additional counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, with bond on each count set at $250,000. Belachheb underwent psychiatric evaluation, and his defense rested in part on the outcome. However, the Assistant District Attorney, Norman Kinne, expressed skepticism about the viability of an insanity defense.
