In the small town of Cross, South Carolina, the life of 25-year-old Kee Juan D. Middleton was tragically cut short on November 26, 2024. A Black/African American male, Middleton was a victim of a fatal shooting that also claimed the life of 16-year-old Shariff A. King and left a third individual wounded. The violent encounter unfolded on Spiers Landing Road, sending ripples of shock and grief through the community.
Middleton, known affectionately as “Rusher Boy,” was a father to two sons, KaeDyn King Middleton and KeAree Prince Middleton, and a daughter, Tyler Mouzon. Born in Charleston, he had deep roots in Cross, where he attended local schools and was known for his passion for driving and working on trucks, as well as riding horses.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led law enforcement to a person of interest. On December 3, 2024, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office arrested 28-year-old Devin Reakwon Dantzler in Columbia, South Carolina, in connection with the killings. Dantzler, also a resident of Cross, was subsequently charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Following his arrest, Dantzler was extradited to Berkeley County to face the charges against him. He appeared in court on December 4, 2024, for a bond hearing. Citing the serious nature of the alleged offenses and the potential risk to the public, the presiding judge denied bond for Dantzler. His next scheduled court appearance was set for February 14, 2025, as the legal process continues to unfold for the deaths of Kee Juan D. Middleton and Shariff A. King. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting remains ongoing.
