Grier, 21, and her brother, Antwon R. Grier, 20, were fatally shot during a gathering that escalated into gunfire among a crowd. Both siblings were transported to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a confrontation involving a group of women, allegedly motivated by jealousy over a relationship. Surveillance footage revealed that the group had gathered in the parking lot prior to the shooting. Mariana, who lived in the apartment complex, and her sister returned from a trip to buy groceries. As they parked, Antwon confronted the group, attempting to de-escalate the situation. The confrontation quickly turned violent, leading to the fatal shooting of both siblings.
Their mother, LaShawnda Grier, was present during the incident and attempted to save her children. She recounted the harrowing experience, stating, "As a mother, how do you pick which kid you are trying to save and both of them down?" LaShawnda also mentioned that Antwon "died in my arms."
In the aftermath, the Euclid Police Department developed strong leads in the case. An 18-year-old woman was detained in connection with the shootings. She was apprehended in Garfield Heights and subsequently handed over to Euclid police for further investigation.
