Darrell Hambrick, a 45-year-old Black man, was shot on the south side of Columbus, Ohio, on the afternoon of December 10, 2024. At approximately 1:25 p.m., police responded to a shooting report in the 700 block of East Moler Street and found Hambrick suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Grant Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries the following day. He was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m.
on December 11.
The investigation into Hambrick's death moved quickly, aided by a crucial piece of information from the victim himself. According to court documents, before being transported from the scene, Hambrick was able to tell responding officers who had shot him. This statement led detectives from the Columbus Division of Police Homicide Unit to identify 39-year-old Haikiem Graham as a suspect.
On December 14, 2024, Columbus Police SWAT officers arrested Graham. He was charged with the murder of Darrell Hambrick. Court documents allege that Graham confronted Hambrick and then had an unidentified associate shoot him. Graham later pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody awaiting trial.
The investigation took a wider scope on the same day Graham was arrested. On December 14, police discovered the bodies of three women who had been fatally shot inside a home on South Ohio Avenue, not far from where Hambrick was attacked. The victims were identified as 34-year-old Sierra Muse, 49-year-old Dawn Clover, and 36-year-old Tiffany Parrish. Investigators learned that Hambrick had lived in the house where the women were killed and began exploring connections between the homicides. Graham was also arrested in connection with the women's deaths.
Nearly two years after the incidents, a second suspect, 57-year-old Antonio Travis, was indicted on murder charges for the triple homicide. The case against Haikiem Graham for Darrell Hambrick's murder is still awaiting trial.
