On December 12, 2024, at approximately noon, Winston-Salem police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3600 block of Yarbrough Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. One victim, identified as 31-year-old Emanuel "Teddy" Bacilio, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that earlier that day, Bacilio had been at a residence on Bainbridge Drive when he was confronted by three unidentified males dressed in dark clothing. The assailants kidnapped Bacilio and transported him to the Yarbrough Avenue location, where he was subsequently shot and killed. The identity of the second victim has not been disclosed by authorities.
In connection with this incident, two suspects have been arrested: 24-year-old Khalil Nikyell Hill and 17-year-old Amir Zion Baker, both from Winston-Salem. They have been charged with felony general murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, and felony robbery with a dangerous weapon. Due to a new law effective December 1, 2024, Baker, despite being a minor, is being charged as an adult. Both suspects appeared before a judge and are scheduled for a subsequent court appearance on January 2.
Authorities have indicated that a third suspect remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing. Residents in the Bainbridge Drive area with home security cameras are urged to review footage from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on December 12 for any sightings of three males in dark clothing and to share relevant footage with the Winston-Salem Police Department.
