Terrick Aaron Strudwick Jr. was a 17-year-old Black teenager from Durham, North Carolina. In his young life, he had attended several local schools, including Glenn Elementary, Lucas Middle School, and Jordan, Northern, and Hillside high schools.
On the night of December 17, 2024, Terrick was fatally shot at the Cornwallis Road apartment complex in Durham. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found him deceased.
His death sent a shockwave of grief through his family and the wider community.
In the days that followed, flowers were left at the site where Terrick lost his life. His father, Terrick Strudwick Sr., spoke about the profound pain of his son's unfulfilled potential. "It makes your heart stop beating," he said. "Just to wonder where would he be in life, the potential to see him grow cut short."
Durham police began an investigation that led to an arrest within days of the shooting. Authorities took 16-year-old Corinthian Poole into custody and charged him with murder in connection with Terrick's death. The investigation continued, and in February 2025, police made a second arrest in the case.
With two individuals charged, the case is now proceeding through the judicial system. The latest development was the second arrest in February 2025.
