In the early morning hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, deputies with the Durham County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the Northeast Durham area following reports of a shooting. The incident occurred just after 5:00 a.m. in the 2500 block of Ardsley Drive. Upon their arrival at the home, law enforcement officials discovered the body of 54-year-old John Edward Tyler inside the property. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
