In the early morning hours of December 16, 2024, the life of 32-year-old Jennifer Navarette was tragically cut short in what police are describing as a domestic incident. A Hispanic woman, Navarette was inside her College Point, Queens, home on 14th Road when the serene quiet of the neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
Police from the 109th Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a woman had been shot.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Navarette with a fatal gunshot wound to her head. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but sadly, Navarette was pronounced dead inside her home. The violence of that morning did not end with her death; a 49-year-old man was also shot at the same location. He sustained gunshot wounds to his back and arm and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The investigation into the shooting led detectives to identify a prime suspect. The New York Police Department announced that 33-year-old Kevin Rodriguez, a Hispanic man, is wanted in connection with Navarette's murder. Authorities have released photographs of Rodriguez and described him as having a light complexion, standing approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing around 210 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes, and a heavily tattooed neck.
As of late January 2025, no arrests had been made in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing. A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest of Rodriguez.
