In the late hours of a Sunday evening in St. Louis, the life of 20-year-old Darrien Abrams was tragically cut short. On November 24, 2024, in the Columbus Square neighborhood, a burst of gunfire erupted near the intersection of Eighth and Carr streets. When police responded to the scene shortly before 10 p.m., they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims. Abrams, a resident of East St. Louis, was found with gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The shootout, which took place near the Dome at America's Center, resulted in another fatality, 26-year-old Damon Lawson, also from East St. Louis, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The violence of that night also left three other individuals wounded. A 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical and unstable condition, while a 26-year-old man was listed in stable condition. A fifth victim, a 24-year-old woman, suffered a graze wound but declined medical treatment at the scene.
Investigators from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Division arrived to find an expansive crime scene, recovering numerous shell casings. In the days following the shooting, police identified Abrams and Lawson as the two deceased victims. However, the circumstances that led to the deadly shootout remained unclear. Homicide detectives have been actively investigating the incident, but authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward, offering the possibility of a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
