On the evening of December 9, 2024, at approximately 10:24 PM, Boston Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 114 Devon Street in the Roxbury neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Keith Cousin of Bayonne, New Jersey, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, Cousin was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the immediate aftermath, detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which revealed two individuals leaving an alley near 270
Columbia Road shortly after the shooting. Officers on patrol observed these individuals and attempted to approach them, but the suspects fled on foot. Following a brief pursuit, both men were apprehended. A subsequent search of their flight path led to the recovery of two firearms concealed in a plastic shopping bag, along with dark clothing.
The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Darius Powell of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and 25-year-old Daiquan Miller of Dorchester, Massachusetts. Both were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device. During their arraignment in Dorchester District Court, they pleaded not guilty and were ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for December 17. As of now, neither has been charged with murder, though the investigation remains active.
