In a quiet home in La Plata, Maryland, the life of 15-year-old Michael Edward Clemons was tragically cut short. On November 20, 2024, the young man, a male, was fatally shot in what authorities believe was a dispute over household chores.
The evening began with an argument between Michael's mother and his stepfather, 48-year-old Darshan Eric Williams, as they drove home from dinner.
The disagreement, reportedly centered on Michael's behavior, continued after they arrived at their residence on Huntt Road. To avoid further conflict, Michael's mother left the house. Shortly after her departure, she received a chilling phone call from her husband, who allegedly told her, 'Your son is dead.”
Upon her return, she found Williams outside the home, initially preventing her from entering. Gaining access through a side door, she discovered her son, Michael, lying unconscious on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite the immediate arrival of emergency personnel and their efforts to perform CPR, Michael was pronounced dead at the scene.
When Charles County Sheriff's deputies arrived just after midnight, they found Darshan Williams standing outside the house and took him into custody without incident. A handgun was later recovered near where he had been detained. While initially uncooperative with investigators, Williams reportedly made a spontaneous statement, saying, 'I know my wife hates me; I just killed her son.”
Investigators have indicated that the preliminary investigation points to the shooting stemming from Williams being upset that his stepson had not completed some household chores, specifically raking leaves. Darshan Eric Williams has been charged with second-degree murder, firearm use in the commission of a felony, first-degree assault, and child abuse resulting in death. He is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center.
