Kai Thongsa Mann, an 18-year-old male from La Plata, Maryland, died on November 4, 2022, in a tragic event that unfolded within his family's home. He was a victim of a quadruple murder-suicide perpetrated by 28-year-old Andre Sales. The horrific discovery was made by Kai's father, Darin Mann, when he returned home from work on that Friday afternoon to find five people deceased.
The investigation by the Charles County Sheriff's Office revealed that Sales had entered the residence on
Wildflower Drive and killed his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, Sara Mann, who was Kai's sister. In addition to Sara and Kai, Sales also took the lives of their 48-year-old mother, Sommaly Mann, and a 23-year-old acquaintance named Javon Watson of White Plains who was visiting at the time. After committing these acts, Andre Sales then took his own life with a firearm that was later recovered at the scene.
The motive for the killings is believed to be related to an ongoing domestic dispute between Sales and Sara Mann. Sales was the father of Sara Mann's two young children, who were initially unaccounted for but were later found safe at another location. An investigation revealed that an unidentified person had obtained a restraining order against Sales in April of the preceding year. Autopsies were to be performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to confirm the official causes of death. The case was determined to be a murder-suicide, and therefore no arrests were made in connection with the deaths.
