In December of 2024, the life of 53-year-old Arica Delaine Brown, a female from Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. Her body was discovered in the Ohio River near Cox Park, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The investigation into her death quickly pointed to a history of domestic turmoil.
Authorities arrested 57-year-old Anthony Nichols in connection with her death.
The investigation revealed a disturbing narrative of violence that preceded the discovery of Brown's body. Police had been called to Brown's home in Shively for a shooting, but she was not found at the residence. During a subsequent phone call with the 911 caller, Nichols allegedly confessed to shooting Brown and dumping her body in the river. Further investigation uncovered that Nichols had reportedly also confessed to Brown's children.
Evidence gathered by law enforcement appeared to corroborate the alleged confession. Surveillance footage showed a vehicle associated with Nichols entering and leaving Cox Park around the time of the incident. A search of his car yielded what was suspected to be blood. Compounding the evidence was a documented history of domestic violence, with Nichols having multiple prior arrests for assaulting Brown and an active emergency protective order against him at the time of her death.
Following his arrest, Nichols was charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and violation of an emergency protective order. He was held on a $1 million bond. While being detained, he reportedly made a spontaneous statement that the incident was an accident.
