In the early evening of Monday, December 9, 2024, the life of 21-year-old Mason Davis Holt of Warner Robins, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Police were dispatched to Ida Lasseter Circle in Perry at approximately 6:37 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Holt lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical aid was immediately rendered, and he was quickly loaded into an ambulance. However, Mason Holt succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital.
The investigation into the homicide led the Perry Police Department to 18-year-old Travis Santia Bunkley. Through a combination of witness interviews and surveillance footage from the area, investigators were able to piece together the events of that evening and identify Bunkley as the suspect. It is believed that the incident began as a robbery that ultimately escalated to Holt being fatally shot. Authorities have also indicated the possibility that the altercation may have originated from a drug deal that went awry and that Holt and Bunkley were acquainted with each other.
On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, just two days after the shooting, Travis Bunkley was arrested by Perry Police detectives. He has been charged with a slate of serious offenses, including felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Bunkley, identified as a Black male, is currently being held at the Houston County Detention Center as the investigation into the death of Mason Holt continues.
