In a tragic turn of events, 30-year-old Kerry Benald Glenn of Perry, Georgia, was found dead on January 14, 2014, the victim of a single gunshot to the head. His body was discovered outside a residence on Highway 224 in Houston County. The investigation that followed unveiled a chilling narrative of a murder-for-hire plot gone awry, where it is believed Glenn was not the intended target.
Authorities quickly focused their investigation on two individuals, Jamarcus Akeem Clark, 23, of Ashburn, and Devasko Dewayne Lewis, 35, of Cordele. Clark was arrested and charged with murder just days after the shooting. Shortly thereafter, Lewis was also taken into custody and faced the same charge. Investigators pieced together a motive that centered on an upcoming federal trial involving Lewis.
According to law enforcement, Lewis had hired Clark to harm or intimidate Kerry Glenn's uncle, Corey Daniels. Daniels was a co-defendant in a federal trucking case and had reportedly agreed to testify against Lewis. It is believed that the actual target of the hired violence was Daniels, but for reasons that remain unclear, Glenn became the victim. Authorities stated that Glenn 'just happened to be at that house and as a result ended up with a bullet in the back of his head.'
The investigation revealed that the plot against Daniels's family may have been in motion even before Glenn's death. Just five days prior to the fatal shooting, shots were fired into the home of Daniels' mother. Investigators believe Clark was also responsible for that incident. Phone records and surveillance footage from a gas station reportedly showed Lewis and Clark exchanging vehicles, with Lewis allegedly providing the vehicle for Clark to carry out the shooting. Police reports indicated that Clark admitted to being paid $1,000 and given a gun by Lewis. Despite the arrests and charges, the weapon used in the murder was not recovered. Both Lewis and Clark were held in jail, with Lewis being denied bond.
