In the early morning hours of July 2, 2020, the life of 20-year-old D'undrea Monta Jolly of Fort Valley, Georgia, was tragically cut short. The young man, a male, was found suffering from gunshot wounds at the Great Inn on St. Patrick's Drive in Perry. Perry Police officers were dispatched to the motel at approximately 12:45 a.m. following reports of shots fired. Despite the efforts of first responders, Jolly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation, a joint effort between the Perry Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, quickly revealed that Jolly was not alone when he was shot. Detectives determined that four other individuals were present in the motel room at the time of the incident. This discovery launched an intense and widespread investigation that crossed state lines, leading law enforcement from a neighboring county to Alabama and eventually Indiana in pursuit of those responsible for Jolly's death.
The multi-state investigation led to the arrests of three individuals in connection with the murder. In Calhoun County, Alabama, deputies, working in conjunction with Perry Police detectives, apprehended 22-year-old Samuel Miller of Anniston, Alabama, and 22-year-old Tycovian Whitlow of Alexandria, Alabama. A vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime was also recovered at that time. Both Miller and Whitlow were charged with felony murder and awaited extradition back to Georgia. Shortly after, 25-year-old Tara Redding of Reynolds, Georgia, turned herself in to the Perry Police Department after returning from Indiana. She was also charged with felony murder and booked into the Houston County Jail.
A fourth suspect, identified as 23-year-old Quintavious Dobbins of Anniston, Alabama, was also sought by authorities. Perry detectives traveled to Clarksville, Indiana, where they received assistance from the Clarksville Police Department and the Indiana State Police. While in Indiana, investigators located another vehicle connected to the crime. The search for Dobbins continued as the other three suspects began to face the legal consequences of their alleged involvement in the death of D'undrea Monta Jolly.
