On December 19, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m., Albany Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1000 block of East 4th Avenue in Albany, Georgia. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Lasonya Dawson with a fatal gunshot wound to the head inside the residence. Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler pronounced her dead at the scene around 1:30 a.m.
