On November 28, 2024, at approximately 4:26 p.m., Miami-Dade Police officers responded to a reported shooting in the vicinity of 13600 Jefferson Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Craig Steven Stroud Jr., known affectionately as "CJ" or "Lil Craig," suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital South in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.
Craig was born on June 21, 2004, in Miami, Florida, to parents Latoya Watson and Craig Steven Stroud Sr. He was baptized at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his great-grandfather, the late Rev. William Weathers Sr. Educated in both Daytona Beach and the Miami-Dade Public School system, Craig graduated from Miami Southridge Senior High in 2022. He was a versatile athlete, excelling in football as both a quarterback and running back, earning recognition for his athleticism and leadership on the field. Craig was known for his positive attitude, strong character, and deep connections with family and friends, especially his grandmother, with whom he shared a special bond.
The circumstances surrounding Craig's death remain under investigation. Detective Andrew D. Martin of the Miami-Dade Police Department reported that witnesses at the scene have been uncooperative, and as of now, there is no description of the suspect or suspects involved. Craig's passing is a significant loss to his community and family. He is survived by his loving mother, Latoya Watson, grandparents June Weathers Scott and Marvin Scott, and siblings Kiarra, Jeremiah, Wayne Jr., Selia, Dwayne, LaTonya, Terrell Jr., and Tayveon, among other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Craig Stroud Sr., his grandfather Adalberto Fontanez, and his grandmother Tonya Watson. Funeral services were held on December 14, 2024, at Second Baptist Church in Richmond Heights, Florida.
