In the late afternoon of November 19, 2024, a burst of gunfire on New Britain Avenue in Hartford shattered the autumn calm and ended two lives in a tragic instant. Jessiah Mercado, a 20-year-old Hispanic female, was shot and killed in a brazen drive-by shooting. Riding in the car with her was her infant son, 4-month-old Messiah Diaz, who was also fatally wounded.
