On December 7, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the parking lot of Delta Bowl in Antioch, California, resulting in the deaths of two individuals: 34-year-old Antonio Drake of Antioch and 35-year-old Deantray Reed of Oakley.
According to the Antioch Police Department, the incident began when Reed approached Drake, who was seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle preparing to leave. An exchange of gunfire ensued between the two men, leading to fatal injuries for both.
Drake was pronounced dead at the scene, while Reed was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Further investigation by the police revealed that the confrontation was an attempted robbery during which both individuals exchanged gunfire. It was determined that Drake and Reed did not know each other prior to the incident. Both firearms used in the shooting were recovered by the authorities, and no additional suspects are being sought in connection with this case.
Both men had prior criminal records. Reed had been arrested in June 2010 for assault with a firearm and other charges, and was later convicted of second-degree robbery and participation in a criminal street gang in 2011. Drake's criminal history included arrests for burglary in 2013, possession of marijuana for sale, and being an addict in possession of a firearm in 2015, among other offenses.
The tragic incident has raised concerns within the community about safety in public spaces, particularly those frequented by families. An employee of Delta Bowl expressed frustration over individuals bringing violence to a venue intended for family entertainment.
As of now, the Antioch Police Department considers this an isolated incident stemming from an attempted robbery, with no further suspects outstanding. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the fatal encounter.
