On January 4, 2023, 14-year-old Adrian Daniels was fatally shot in a residential neighborhood in west Fort Worth, Texas. The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. in the 700 block of Panay Way Drive, where a shooting left Daniels and 17-year-old Breck Jerod Williams Jr. dead, and another 17-year-old injured.
Daniels, a freshman honor roll student at Brewer High School in the White Settlement Independent School District, was the oldest of four siblings.
His grandmother, Shannon Johnson, described him as an athlete and a good boy, emphasizing that his death was not related to gangs or drugs. She mentioned that Daniels was visiting the house on Panay Way Drive to get a ride when the shooting occurred.
Neighbors reported that the house had been the target of previous drive-by shootings in the months leading up to the incident, though no injuries were reported in those cases. Despite these reports, Fort Worth police stated they were not aware of any prior calls to that address.
On February 23, 2023, Fort Worth police arrested 18-year-old Jakari Harps in connection with the shootings. Harps was charged with two counts of murder and booked into the Tarrant County Jail. Police indicated that more arrests were expected as the investigation continued.
In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was established by Daniels' grandmother to assist with funeral expenses, highlighting the family's grief and the community's support.
