Axel Rosado, a 46-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed on January 1, 2019, in Fort Worth, Texas. The incident occurred outside a Shell gas station in the early hours of New Year's Day. Rosado was found sleeping inside his car when he was approached by 29-year-old Brandon Clayton Yocum and another individual. After making a purchase at the gas station, Yocum opened the passenger door of Rosado's vehicle, leading to a confrontation between the two men.
Rosado exited his car and walked towards Yocum, who then pulled out a gun and fired several shots. At least one of the shots hit Rosado, who responded by throwing a glass bottle at Yocum. Yocum then got into the passenger seat of a white SUV and fired one or two additional gunshots as he left the scene. Rosado was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
In the hours following the shooting, Fort Worth police were able to identify Yocum as a suspect. On January 4, members of the Fort Worth Police Department's Fugitive Unit and Special Response Team arrested Yocum during a traffic stop after he left his residence. Yocum was charged with murder and held at the Tim Curry Criminal Justice Center on a $200,000 bond. The driver of the white SUV was also identified, but it remains unclear if any charges will be filed against him. Detectives have not disclosed the reason why Yocum opened Rosado's door or the nature of the argument that led to the shooting.
Yocum has a criminal history, including previous convictions for possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, and threatening to harm witnesses in a criminal case. The investigation into Rosado's death is ongoing, and it is not clear if Yocum has obtained legal representation.
