On April 23, 2024, 24-year-old Michael Augui Cantu was fatally shot in Fort Worth, Texas. The incident occurred around 5:35 p.m. in the 2400 block of Irion Avenue, where officers found Cantu and another individual with gunshot wounds. Cantu was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim was transported to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, 43-year-old Alfredo Cantu Martinez, was arrested at the scene without incident and charged with murder in connection with Cantu's death. The shooting is believed to have taken place in an alley behind a building. Martinez was booked into Tarrant County Jail, and homicide detectives are actively investigating the case.
Michael Cantu was born on August 14, 1999, to parents Miguel Amaro and Esperanza Lopez in Fort Worth. He was remembered as a happy, smart, and empathetic young man who cherished time with his family and enjoyed working on motorcycles. His funeral services were held on May 2, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
