Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Bissereth was pronounced dead at the scene.

On March 30, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals' Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 26-year-old Demonte Harris in connection with Bissereth's death. Harris was charged with first-degree murder, with bail set at $1 million.
In November 2024, Harris pleaded guilty to the murder of Bissereth and was sentenced to 20 years in state prison. Court documents indicate that Harris will receive credit for 506 days of time served.
