On the evening of February 20, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Brownsville police responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of East Adams Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Martin Leal Longoria lying unresponsive on the ground, having sustained a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services transported Longoria to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The following day, February 21, 2023, authorities arrested 17-year-old Jose David Garcia in connection with Longoria's death. Garcia was charged with murder, a first-degree felony, and was held without bond.
