On April 12, 2023, 28-year-old Angelica Leticia Hinojosa was tragically killed in Dallas, Texas. Born on February 11, 1995, in Dallas, she was the daughter of Francisco Hinojosa and Elizabeth Benavides.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. in the 2300 block of Prichard Lane. Upon arrival, Dallas police officers found both Hinojosa and a male suspect with gunshot wounds. Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect shot Hinojosa before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
Family members identified the suspect as Hinojosa's boyfriend, with whom she had been in a relationship for about nine months. Reports indicate that Hinojosa had attempted to end the relationship prior to the incident. Tragically, her 11-year-old son was present during the shooting but was not physically harmed.
The Texas Council on Family Violence later identified the suspect as 36-year-old Juan Carlos Escamilla. Their report noted that Hinojosa had tried to end the relationship with Escamilla before the fatal incident.
