In a quiet Tucson, Arizona neighborhood, a devastating tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 8-year-old Mackenzie Parker. On the evening of December 23, 2015, a series of events culminated in a horrific act of violence that left two young sisters dead.
The girls' mother had received a threatening phone call from her estranged husband, 37-year-old Levi Parker, who was with their daughters, Mackenzie and her 5-year-old sister Haylee.
This alarming call prompted her to immediately contact 911. Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to Levi Parker's home and attempted to speak with him from outside the front door.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out from within the house, compelling the deputies to force their way inside. Upon entering, they discovered a heart-wrenching scene. Levi Parker and his two daughters, Mackenzie and Haylee, had all sustained gunshot wounds. Mackenzie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her younger sister, Haylee, was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries. Levi Parker had turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide and was taken to a hospital where he was placed on life support. He was pronounced dead the following morning from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Arizona Department of Child Safety later confirmed that the incident was a case of abuse by Levi Parker against his daughter Mackenzie. There were no prior reports of abuse or neglect involving the family with the department.
