On April 28, 2023, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Henderson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported shooting on County Road 3803 in Henderson County, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Justin Jordan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite prompt medical attention, Jordan succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Present at the scene was 30-year-old Cody Jones, who admitted to shooting Jordan. Authorities arrested Jones on the spot, charging him with murder. He was subsequently booked into the Henderson County Jail, where he awaited arraignment.
Justin Jordan, known as "JJ," was born on August 25, 1995, in Garland, Texas. He graduated from Athens High School and briefly attended Trinity Valley Community College before enlisting in the U.S. Army. After a medical honorable discharge in 2020, Jordan pursued a career in contract work, climbing towers across the country. He was remembered as an adventurous individual who cherished the outdoors, his family, and especially his daughter, Elizabeth.
The circumstances leading to the fatal shooting remain under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed any potential motives or the nature of the relationship between Jordan and Jones. As of the latest available information, Jones was in custody facing murder charges, with further legal proceedings pending.
