On April 29, 2023, at approximately 8:35 a.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting incident in the 200 block of South Jim Miller Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Jonathan Andrews lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter, but Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial reports misidentified the victim; however, it was later confirmed that Jonathan Andrews was a Black transgender woman who went by the
name LaKendra. This misidentification delayed the acknowledgment of her true identity and may have impacted the early stages of the investigation.
As of December 2024, the case remains unsolved. The Dallas Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in identifying the perpetrator.
