On January 3, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 8800 block of Arbor Park Drive, near Royal Lane in the Lake Highlands area. Upon arrival, officers discovered 29-year-old Richard Charles Pinkney III lying on the sidewalk at the entrance to a trailhead, suffering from a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Following the incident, the Dallas Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Pinkney's death. Detectives canvassed the area, and the department's Air One helicopter conducted an aerial search of the nearby creek for over an hour. Despite these efforts, the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting remained unidentified. As of January 4, 2024, no arrests had been made, and the case was documented under number 001454-2024.

He is survived by his daughter, Royalty Pinkney, his mother, siblings, and extended family, all of whom cherished the moments they shared with him.
